Terms of Service
Introduction
These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your use of the Free Fact Checker browser extension ("Extension"). By installing or using the Extension, you agree to be bound by these Terms. If you do not agree to these Terms, you may not use the Extension.
Service Description
Free Fact Checker is a browser extension that allows you to highlight text on any webpage and fact-check it using Google's Gemini API. The Extension is provided free of charge. There are no accounts, subscriptions, or payments of any kind.
API Key Usage and Responsibility
To use the Extension, you must provide your own Google Gemini API key. Your API key is stored locally on your device and is never transmitted to us — we have no servers. You are solely responsible for the security and management of your API key, including any costs incurred through your use of the Gemini API. We are not liable for any unauthorized access or misuse of your API key.
Third-Party Services
The Extension communicates directly with Google's Gemini API using your API key. Your use of the Gemini API is governed by Google's Terms of Service and Privacy Policy. We are not responsible for the practices or policies of Google or any other third-party service. You acknowledge that Google may use your request data in accordance with their own terms.
Accuracy and Limitations
The Extension relies on AI-generated responses from Google's Gemini API. We do not guarantee the accuracy, completeness, or reliability of any fact-check results. You should not rely solely on the Extension for decisions of consequence. Always verify important information through authoritative sources.
Prohibited Uses
You agree not to use the Extension to:
- Violate any applicable laws or regulations.
- Infringe upon the intellectual property rights of others.
- Harass, defame, or harm any individual or group.
- Circumvent or interfere with the Extension's functionality.
- Use the Extension in any way that violates a third-party website's terms of service.
Third-Party Website Compliance
When using the Extension on any website, you are solely responsible for complying with that website's terms of service and any other applicable policies. We do not endorse or take responsibility for the terms or practices of third-party websites, and we are not liable for any consequences arising from your use of the Extension on such sites.
Intellectual Property
The Extension's source code and associated materials are the property of their respective owners. You agree not to reverse-engineer, copy, modify, distribute, or create derivative works from the Extension except as permitted by applicable open-source licenses.
Disclaimers and Limitation of Liability
THE EXTENSION IS PROVIDED "AS IS" WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, OR NON-INFRINGEMENT. TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, WE SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY DIRECT, INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES ARISING FROM YOUR USE OF OR RELIANCE ON THE EXTENSION OR ITS OUTPUTS.
Modifications
We reserve the right to modify or discontinue the Extension at any time without notice. We may also update these Terms at any time by posting a revised version on this page. Your continued use of the Extension after any such changes constitutes your acceptance of the revised Terms.
Governing Law
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Arkansas, U.S.A., excluding its conflict of law provisions.
