Privacy Policy
Introduction
Free Fact Checker is committed to protecting your privacy. This privacy policy explains how the Free Fact Checker browser extension and website handle your information.
Information We Collect
Free Fact Checker does not collect, store, transmit, or share any personal information or user data. Specifically:
- We do not collect any personal information such as your name, email address, or location.
- We do not track your browsing activity or the text you fact-check.
- We do not use cookies, analytics, or any form of telemetry.
- We do not have accounts or logins of any kind.
Data Stored Locally
The extension stores the following data locally on your device using Chrome's built-in storage. This data never leaves your browser:
- Your Gemini API Key — used to authenticate requests to Google's Gemini API.
- Your model preference — which Gemini model you have selected.
- Your modal width preference — the width of the results panel.
How Your Data Is Used
When you perform a fact check, the selected text is sent directly from your browser to Google's Gemini API using your own API key. This communication happens entirely between your browser and Google — no data passes through our servers. We have no servers.
Third-Party Services
The extension communicates directly with Google's Gemini API to perform fact checks. Your use of the Gemini API is subject to Google's Terms of Service and Privacy Policy.
AI/ML Training
Free Fact Checker does not use any of the data you provide to develop, improve, or train any models or services. We do not have access to your data.
Children's Privacy
Free Fact Checker is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect any information from children.
Changes to This Policy
If we update this privacy policy, the changes will be posted on this page.
